A variety of injuries and bans will hamper the United boss tonight as he aims to field a team strong enough to be victorious over their neighbours. The gaffer will find it difficult to name a suitable starting eleven at Oakwell, never mind finding a maximum of seven players to fill the bench!

Players will definitely have to play out of position tonight, but there is an inkling that Jamie Ward, United's potent attacker, could make an appearance this evening, albeit probably a cameo one.

Richard Cresswell, Gary Naysmith, Derek Geary, Andrew Davies, Jordan Stewart, Nick Montgomery, Lee Williamson, Andrew Taylor, Kyle Walker, Chris Morgan and Jamie Ward are all unavailable, although the latter does have a chance of making a brief return as the article alludes to above.

Paddy Kenny and Chris Morgan are both serving bans. The goalkeeper, who penned a new deal recently, is out until April with a drugs ban of course, while Chris Morgan will sit out this game only because of his five yellow cards.

Meanwhile, Iain Hume will probably feature for the first time against the Blades since fracturing his skull a year ago. Stephen Foster, Barnsley's skipper, is suspended because he picked up his fifth yellow of the season in their previous outing at Peterborough - incidentally, an identical suspension to Chris Morgan's.
