D’Urso has had a distinctive career as a professional referee – starting out in August 1997 when he took charge of a Third Division game between Fulham and Wrexham, sending off Steve Watkin for the visitors.
His first united game in charge was the 4-0 drumming handed out by an unstoppable Sunderland in November 1998.
