Kevin Blackwell's ten man Sheffield United beat Phil Brown's Hull City by two goals to nil. Stephen Quinn and James Beattie scored the two goals as Chris Morgan got sent off for two yellow cards in the 1st half.

Michael Tonge and Gary Speed had chances in the opening stages while Campbell scuffed is shot straight at Kenny. Chris Morgan received his 1st yellow card of the game after he pulled down Livermore just outside the box.

Cotterill's cross met Beattie but he could only see his effort go over the bar. Marney vollyed over for Hull as they were putting more pressure on United.

Campbell broke into the box on 45 minutes as he was allegedly brought down by captain Morgan. Linesman Butler waved for a penalty for Hull. Dowd went to have a word with his official and he indicated a free-kick to the Tigers but that was topped with a 2nd yellow for Morgan as he was sent off. The armband was handed to Gary Speed as controversy was ringing around Bramall Lane as nearly the whole squad was surrounding the referee and linesman. The free-kick was hit against the wall as United went in at half time ten men down.

Blackwell made a tatical change and brought off on-loan winger Cotterill and brought on Ehiogu. The Blades responded to the sending off and had an early chance. Billy Sharp's header was saved greatly by Myhill as he impressively tipped it round the post.

Halls cross deflected off Beattie onto the boot of Quinn as he smashed his volley into the right and side of the net. He ran off a celebrated with the Valad Stand as he threw his shirt off.

Billy Sharp broke into the box and got tugged down by Livermore. A penalty was indicated but how Livermore didn't receive his 2nd yellow was a mystery. Beattie did his normal routine and stepped up to the spot as he thumped the ball past Myhill to the left hand side of the goal.

Fighting broke out in the away end as United put pressure on with Beattie. Sharp got substituted for fellow striker Rob Hulse. As referee Phil Dowd blew his whistle for full time, cheers rang around Beautiful DownTown Bramall Lane as Kevin Blackwell's contract looks more probable
