Sheffield United have quite a good record at Bramall Lane against Blackpool; in fact you have to go all the way back to April 1977 when the Seasiders robbed the Blades in a 5-1 league victory.

The Blades blundered to a 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City last Saturday - Paul Perry's 30th minute striker was enough to ensure all three points for the Bluebirds in what was a dire performance by United.

On 58th minute Bryan Robson was forced to make a change when skipper Chris Morgan limped off injured with veteran Chris Lucketti taking to the field. It is unclear as to the extent of his injury but at present will be doubtful for the visits of Blackpool and Crystal Palace.

One positive about the defeat was the introduction of striker Rob Hulse, who played in a competitive first team fixture for the first time since he broke his leg last March after falling foul of an innocent challenge by Peter Cech of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Possible Blades Line-Up: Paddy Kenny, Phil Bardsley, Chris Lucketti, Matthew Kilgallon, Gary Naysmith, Keith Gillespie, Michael Tonge, Nick Montgomery, David Carney, James Beattie, Billy Sharp.

Blackpool haven't set the Championship alight since they destroyed Yeovil Town in the League One Play-Off Final last May but have held their own this season and there 4-0 drumming of Coventry City only added to the reason why they will still be pulling there weight in Championship next season.

Wes Hoolahan gave the home side the lead on 28 minutes when he dispatched his penalty - and three minutes later City saw striker Kevin Kyle sent-off before Michael Flynn (65), Kaspars Gorkss (72) and Scott Vernon (88) all added to Sky Blues misery.

Simon Grayson signed a new two-and-a-half year contract as Seasiders manager on Friday. The club also has an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months, meaning the manager is potentially tied to the club until the summer of 2011.

Midfielder Keith Southern is coming to terms with the fact that for the next two months he'll be "just one of the punters" at Bloomfield Road. The 26-year-old will spend Christmas as a Blackpool fan, he can't play until February after undergoing surgery on his ankle. The Seasiders second longest serving player spent derby day on the operating table - much to his frustration - and will spend the fixture-packed festive period twiddling his thumbs at home.

Defender Ian Evatt had been out for three months with ligament damage but was thrown back in against Stoke City at the expense of skipper Michael Jackson.

Michael Flynn's current standing as probably first choice midfielder is a relief to him, especially as it has taken him almost five months to nail down a place and Danny Coid is fit again so there is more competition at full-back, whilst Adrian Forbes and John Hills are fully fit.

David Fox and Andy Morrell also want their places back. And Keigan Parker has recovered from illness and is in the squad for Wednesday's game, which means Grayson has five strikers to choose from - Ben Burgess, Andy Morrell, Bartosz Slusarski and Scott Vernon - six if you count teenage prodigy Danny Mitchley, who is edging nearer to a place in the 16 and is fresh from scoring three goals in two reserve and youth team games, the manager has six strikers to choose from.

Possible Seasiders Line-Up: Paul Rachubka, Shaun Barker, Ian Evatt, Kaspars Gorkss, Stephen Crainey, Wes Hoolahan, Claus Jorgensen, Michael Flynn, Ben Burgess, Andy Morrell, Gary Taylor-Fletcher.

With thanks to Peter Gillatt of Blackpool-Mad for helping with the opposition review
