Port Vale vs. Sheffield United

With promotion already in the bag, following a 2-1 win at Northampton Town last weekend, the Blades will look to winning the Third Division title for the first time in their history.

United are 9 points better off than second placed Bolton Wanderers, who travel to Oldham Athletic on Saturday. A Blades and Bolton win, leaving just three games remaining, would all but guarantee the S2 club lifting the title - only goal difference would play a huge factor should United go onto loser their remaining fixtures.

Sheffield United clinched promotion to the Championship after coming from behind to beat Northampton 2-1 at Sixfields. The Blades left it late, but an 88th-minute winner from John Fleck sparked jubilant scenes from the away end as they celebrated a return to the second flight. The visitors had started sharply with Samir Carruthers and Jay O'Shea going close, but Cobblers captain Marc Richards should have broken the deadlock when he volleyed over from close range.

It was the Cobblers who broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time as Richards exchanged passes with Michael Smith before unleashing a thunderbolt into the top corner of the net from a tight angle. Top-scorer Billy Sharp was thrown on for the restart and the equaliser arrived on the hour mark when Fleck released Leon Clarke, who raced clear before blasting the ball past Adam Smith.

The Blades piled on the pressure before Sharp found Fleck with just two minutes to go, and the midfielder beat Adam Smith from close range to seal a dramatic win.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has reported no new injuries after his side secured promotion last week with victory at Northampton. Defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell is pushing for a starting place after recovering from an ankle injury to step off the bench last Saturday.

Leading goal scorer Billy Sharp, fellow striker James Hanson and winger Mark Duffy, who all started as substitutes at Sixfields, are also pushing for recalls. Striker Caolan Lavery will miss the remaining four games after sustaining knee ligament damage in last month's draw at Oldham.

PORT VALE VS. SHEFFIELD UNITED

Port Vale's bid to survive the dreaded trap door that may lead them into League Two football took a dent last weekend when they lost 1-0 at fellow relegation candidates Chesterfield, whom may have already sealed their own fate by the time the Blades host the Spirites at Bramall Lane, on the final day of the season.

The Potteries club are just one point into the mire but have the (slight) advantage of a game in hand over their fellow bottom opponents.

Joe Rowley scored his first goal to give Chesterfield a 1-0 victory over Port Vale that keeps their slender Sky Bet League One survival hopes alive for another week. The 17-year-old pounced in the second half to leave Chesterfield nine points from safety with four games remaining and condemn Vale to another pointless away day that leaves them in danger of going down. Although Thorsten Stuckmann saved a low drive from JJ Hooper in the 27th minute, the first half summed up where both teams are in the table but the game came to life after the break.

Vale almost scored in the 52nd minute when Chris Eagles had a close-range shot superbly saved by Stuckmann before Chesterfield broke two minutes later and Rowley netted after Deniz Mehmet could only parry Kristian Dennis' drive.

Vale were struggling to create an opening and Chesterfield almost scored again in the 81st minute when a 25-yard drive from Dan Gardner was tipped over by Mehmet. Chesterfield had to defend desperately in stoppage time as Vale, one point from safety with a game in hand, pressed for an equaliser but held on for a victory that leaves both clubs facing League Two football next season.

Port Vale will be without on-loan winger Olamide Shodipo, who is likely to miss the rest of the season. The 19-year-old QPR loanee has developed a tendinitis problem that looks set to bring his campaign to an early close.

Manager Michael Brown could also be without defender Andre Bikey after he was forced off early in last weekend's defeat to Chesterfield with a hamstring problem. But Remie Streete could return from his own hamstring injury while Danny Pugh is available again following suspension.
