Preview: Rotherham United vs. Sheffield United (Part 2)

The pair took part in a pre-season friendly in 2010 the DVS with the Blades winning 2-0; Johnny Ertl and Daniel Bogdanovic (penalty) netting the goals in an entertaining game.

Rotherham were handed a bye in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, but having won this competition in 1996 after beating Shrewsbury Town (2-1) at the former Wembley Stadium there won’t be many Reds fans who won’t want to succeed.

Even more so after the much fancied Millers have struck a turn for the worse in League Two after what was considered ‘horrific’ defending by manager Andy Scott they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Micky Adams Port Vale last Saturday.

For the Millers it was their fourth game without a win. There last incidentally came on 10 September against Dagenham & Redbridge (3-1) and now find themselves eighth in the table. Maybe the extent of their bad form turns to the loss of Adam Le Fondre who after netting four times for the Millers this season moved to Reading last month.

The DVS outfit will be without former Blades Academy defender Ryan Cresswell (ankle) through injury and may be out for sometime after the possibility of surgery as arose. Has is keeper Jamie Annerson (knee) – also a former academy player through injury.

However midfielder Paul Warne (knee) edged closer to a return to first team action after appearing for the reserves last week.
