Salisbury refereed the Blades' 1:1 home draw with Derby County in February, a game which saw Derby-born Lee Williamson strike a 90th minute equaliser. Salisbury started refereeing in 1985 and progressed through the West Lancashire and Northern Premier Leagues to reach National List status in 1998, being promoted to the referees’ list in 2001. He also officiated on the FA Vase Final in 2001.
