Mr. Russell last took charge of a Sheffield United fixture when they travelled to the Madejski Stadium where the Blades beat Reading 3-1 late last August. Stephen Quinn, Jamie Ward and David Cotterill all found the net for Kevin Blackwell's side.

He will be accompanied by assistants M. Dexter and C. Knowles, N. Radford is the fourth official. Russell last officiated a match early this year when Brighton & Hove Albion claimed a 1-0 win at Torquay United in the FA Cup on 2nd January.

Married with three children, forty one year old Mick is a Gas Service Engineer who started refereeing in the early 1990's, progressing through the South Midlands League to reach the National List of assistant referees in 2000 and was promoted to the referees' list in 2004.Enjoys a game of golf and spending what spare time he has with his family, and is a licensed FA Coach. In the twenty-five games he has took charge of this season he has brandished the red card on three occasions to; Jean-Francios Christophe (Southend United), Jamie McCoumbe (Bristol City) and John McCombe (Port Vale), he has shown the yellow card 61 times.

During his professional refereeing career Mr. Russell has officiated just three fixtures in the past three seasons.
