Sheffield United vs. Charlton Athletic

Paul Coutt's was on target in the 4-2 win over Swindon Town last Tuesday night.

Tomorrow's fixture will be the Blades last home game to be played on a Saturday. They will have four more home fixtures following the conclusion of tomorrow's fixture. Two will be in midweek (Millwall and Coventry), whilst Bradford City falls on Easter Monday and the final fixture with Chesterfield will be played out on a Sunday.

Chris Wilder's Sheffield United remain top of the table, and eight points ahead of second placed Fleetwood Town. A run of eight games unbeaten started with a 4-0 home win over AFC Wimbledon on 4th February. Since then they have won a further four fixtures, including their last outing at Swindon Town (4-2), and drawn three.

Sheffield United strengthened their position at the top of League One with a 4-2 win over relegation-haunted Swindon at the County Ground. United took the lead on 29 minutes when Caolan Lavery seized on a mix-up in the Swindon defence to slot home. Lavery turned provider six minutes later as his driven cross was smashed in from close range by Kieron Freeman.

Top-scorer Billy Sharp almost made it 3-0 but narrowly failed to get on the end of Jack O'Connell's teasing centre. Charlie Colkett reduced the deficit within a minute of the re-start with a long-range shot. United were stunned seven minutes later after Ben Gladwin rifled home an equaliser from the edge of the penalty area.

Swindon's joy was short-lived as the Blades retook the lead on 58 minutes through Jay O'Shea's close-range strike after more poor defending from the hosts. Paul Coutts sealed the win in stoppage time from the penalty spot after Samir Carruthers had been fouled by Colkett.

Sheffield United pair Mark Duffy and Caolan Lavery have both been passed fit for the home game against Charlton. Winger Duffy, who scored in the 1-1 draw at the Valley earlier in the season, has missed the last two games due to a knee problem, while striker Lavery was withdrawn from the midweek win at Swindon after complaining of a tight hamstring.

Manager Chris Wilder has no new injury or suspension problems as the Blades bid to extend their eight-point lead at the top of the table. Striker Leon Clarke is back in training after being sidelined since mid-January with an ankle problem.

SHEFFIELD UNITED VS. CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Charlton in action against Bradford City.

Karl Robinson's Charlton will look to clock out the remaining fixtures consolidating their League One status. This should be easily achievable in the eight matches remaining, despite laying 15th in the League One table. They are nine points clear of relegation but have won just once in the last eleven matches, and have drawn their last two outings at home to difficult opponents Walsall and Bradford City (both 1-1).

City slipped to fifth in League One after Timothee Dieng's header secured a point when Jorge Teixiera had given the hosts the lead, but fell further behind the top three after Sheffield United, Fleetwood and Bolton each won. Charlton have fallen to 15th, and sit nine points clear of the bottom four.

Bradford provided the most consistent, early attacking threat. Their captain Romain Vincelot had shot just wide of the left post from 25 yards in only the third minute, and they again went close when Tony McMahon tested goalkeeper Declan Rudd with a 35-yard free-kick and when Nathanial Knight-Percival sent a close-range header just over the crossbar.

The flat hosts had offered little in response, but in the 35th minute it was they who took the lead. From a central free-kick, Ricky Holmes crossed towards Patrick Bauer, who headed towards Teixiera from where the defender controlled possession before classily finishing from in front of goal into the top-right corner beyond Colin Doyle.

It took only eight minutes for Bradford to secure their equaliser. Mark Marshall's powerful shot from the edge of the area was spilt straight to Dieng by Rudd, and from close range in front of a near-open goal he headed towards the bottom-right corner.

The hosts responded with greater intensity during the second half, creating enough chances to secure victory. Tony Watt had already forced a save from Doyle when they went close through both Fredrik Ulvestad and Johnnie Jackson, but the goal they required remained beyond their reach.

Jason Pearce could return for Charlton after playing for the club's Under-23s last weekend. He had been missing with a groin problem suffered in December, but fellow defender Lewis Page is out because of a hamstring injury.

Jake Forster-Caskey and Ezri Konsa are again in contention to start, having returned as substitutes during Tuesday's 1-1 home draw with Bradford. Josh Magennis, owing to a hamstring injury, is again expected to be unavailable.
