Sheffield United vs. Hull City

For new Blades boss Nigel Adkins it will be the final opportunity to test out his players in a competitive fixture before the start of the new League One season next Saturday where United travel to Gillingham.

There pre-season friendlies have to date been a success with an unbeaten run of four wins against Ilkeston (1-0), Cheltenham Town (3-1), Exeter City (2-1) and Macclesfield Town (4-0) all away from home. They have drawn once, at home to Newcastle United (2-2) last Sunday.

United are to be without wingers Matty Done (fractured collarbone) and Jamal Campbell-Ryce through injury - both look set to miss the start of the season.

Since the Blades and the Tigers last met in that epic FA Cup Semi-Final in April last year City have seen a fall from grace. They were beaten 3-2 in extra-time to Arsenal in the Final despite leading by two clear goals and last season saw them lose there Premier League status via relegation.

Despite relegation they have retained manager Steve Bruce who served as Blades boss throughout the 1998-99 season. They have done ok in the summer pre-season friendlies. The Tigers won 2-1 at North Ferriby United on 17 July before beating Chesterfield (1-3). At home they were goalless against German side Hannover 96 before being victorious (4-0) against Al-Ain.

On the transfer front the KC Stadium club have allowed ex-Sheffield United midfielder Stephen Quinn to join Reading whilst Liam Rosenior (Brighton & Hove Albion), Mark Oxley (Hibernian), Tom Ince (Derby County), Paul McShane (Reading), Robbie Brady (Norwich City) and James Chester (West Bromwich Albion) have all left in a combined £19,750,000 deals. They also allowed Joe Cracknell, Leon dawson, Joe Dudgeon, Mayor Figueroa, Steve Harper, John Mahon, Jonathan Margetts, Eoghan McCawl, Yannick Sagbo and Sam Topliss to leave as free agents. In assembling a squad they have signed Ryan Taylor (Newcastle United) on a free transfer and Sam Clucas (Chesterfield) for £1,300,000.

The fixture with Hull City will also see the return of defender Harry Maguire who joined the Tigers in a seven figure sum twelve months ago.
