Sheffield United vs. Swindon Town - Part 2

Last updated : 09 December 2016 By @blades_mad1889

Since losing to Preston in the Play-Off Final some 18 months ago the Robins have struggled at League One level. They are 18th in the table and four points clear of relegation.

They were victorious in their last fixture over Bradford City but this was their first win for three outings. They were knocked out of the FA Cup at home to non-league Eastleigh (3-1) in a replay and were beaten recently 3-2 at home to Luton Town in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Anton Rodgers' free-kick was enough to give Swindon victory as they beat Bradford 1-0 at the County Ground. The 23-year-old opened his goal scoring tally for the season to give the Robins their sixth Sky Bet League One win this campaign. Bradford should have taken the lead after nine minutes when Marc McNulty found himself in on goal but he fired his attempt wide.

Swindon almost took the lead through Lloyd Jones' powerful header but Colin Doyle saved it on the line. The home side were awarded a free-kick in the 19th minute which Rodgers curled into the top-left corner from 30 yards. Striker James Hanson found himself with the chance to equalise six minutes before half-time but he rifled his shot from close range over the bar.

Nathan Delfouneso should have doubled Swindon's lead midway through the second half but his glancing header went just wide of the post. Hanson had a chance in the 82nd minute to earn his side a point but he could only direct his header onto the woodwork.

Swindon boss Luke Williams will make a late decision on three players ahead of the match. Midfielder Yaser Kasim has returned to training after almost two months out with an ankle injury but may need more time to regain full fitness.

Defenders James Brophy and Bradley Barry have a better chance of being available. Brophy came off at half-time during Saturday's win over Bradford while Barry has been struggling with a hamstring strain. Nathan Thompson remains unavailable, also with a hamstring problem, while defender Jamie Sendles-White is out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
