Figures show that United have the second highest average home attendance in the league this season, and in the last campaign they actually finished top of the list. But the introduction of Derby County means they have been pipped to the post in the selected column.

Managers such as Jim Magilton, Roberto Martinez and Stuart Pearce have all praised the United faithul for the hostile atmosphere they create on matchday. Blades boss Kevin Blackwell encourages the fans to play their part:

"You would have to go a long way to beat the atmosphere at Bramall Lane when the fans are really on it for a big game - as Stuart Pearce went out of his way to tell me last season when he was here watching

"I suppose it is easy to say that the first goal will be key, but it wasn't on Friday at Deepdale and it wasn't here against Forest in 2003 when we came from two goals down to win 4-3 in the play-offs.

"On that night - and that season in general - our supporters were nothing short of sensational and we developed a relationship between the them and the team that enabled us to keep going in adversity and turn so many games very late on.

"I want every one of us to remember that and ask our fans to recreate that atmosphere and never say die spirit whatever happens tonight - games are never over until the final whistle."

Tonight could be another 'special night' at BDTBL, and we all know that we have had plenty of those over the years.
