Khan, 20 was due to see his contract expire in the summer but has opted to become a free agent now. He recently enjoyed a loan spell with National League side Barrow and under former boss Nigel Clough made his only two appearances in 2014 in victories over Crawley Town and Rotherham United.
Upon his release today he has been swiftly snapped up on a free transfer by Barnsley.
