Sheffield United vs. Peterborough United - Part 1

Last updated : 17 September 2016 By @blades_mad1889

Under the new leadership of Chris Wilder, the Blades had hit a slump as the season started, with Wilder still attempting to structure his new side. However, new additions to the side soon followed triple victories over Oxford United (2-1), Gillingham (2-1) and last weekend at AFC Wimbledon (3-2) to fire United into mid-table and out of the bottom four. A victory today, married with positive results elsewhere could see United jump into the top six, although at this stage of the season, it's points, rather than position is more important.

Sheffield United claimed their third straight win in League One as they held out for a 3-2 victory at AFC Wimbledon. Mark Duffy opened the scoring for the Blades in the 20th minute after he beat a defender and then the goalkeeper with a dummy before finding the net.

Captain Billy Sharp doubled his side's lead six minutes later with a well-placed header after a cross from Matt Done but Dom Poleon pulled one back in the 37th minute with a low header from an Andy Barcham cross.

Duffy and Done both missed chances for the visitors before Done found the net from a clever John Fleck through-ball just before the hour mark. Substitute Tom Elliott made a quick impact and gave the Dons renewed hope in the 73rd minute from Dean Parrett's free-kick but United held on.

Sheffield United striker Caolan Lavery is hoping to make his first appearance for the club in the home game against Peterborough. Lavery has been working his way towards full fitness since signing from city rivals Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee at the end of last month, but boss Chris Wilder confirmed he will be included in his squad.

Midfielder Chris Basham returned to full training this week and is hoping to shake off a hip injury that forced him out of last week's win at AFC Wimbledon. The Blades have won their last three league matches, but Wilder will consider making changes with defenders James Wilson and Chris Hussey, plus midfielders John Fleck and Stefan Scougall all in contention.
