Blades 1:1 Blackpool

In front of a crowd just shy of 5,700, the Blades put in a promising performance against Blackpool to round off their pre-season campaign.

Trialists Alex Kruk and Kevin McDonald started the game, and were both applauded by the Blades fans when they were substituted in the second-half. Goalkeeper Matt Duke was on the bench, but appeared for half an hour.

It was a lively opening half for the Blades, with Kruk firing narrowly over Matt Gilks's crossbar early on.

Kevin McDonald's speculative volley had the Tangerines goalkeeper worried, but the ball just evaded his post, whilst Stephen Quinn's curling effort looped over the crossbar.

Steve Simonsen had to be alert when Sylvestre had a try at goal - the ball was parried away by the keeper.

Trialist McDonald came close again with a low strike at goal, but United's willingness to break the deadlock was rewarded. Bogdanovic squared the ball to Tonne in the area, whose shot was saved by the hand of Gilks, but new signing Porter was there to follow up and thump the ball into the net.

Half-time sub Jordan Slew was played through on goal, but his lame effort was saved by the goalkeeper at a tight angle.

Matt Duke blocked a Taylor-Fletcher shot to ensure United kept a clean sheet for the time being, but the Blades' resistance was broken when Sutherland curled into the far corner to equalise.

United had no other notable chances, nor did Blackpool, which meant the honours were even in the game against Ian Holloway's men.

Trialists Alex Kruk and Kevin McDonald both gave good accounts of themselves yet again. If the duo were rewarded contracts with the club, no one would be surprised or complain.

All of United's preparations ahead of their curtain raiser at Oldham will all be done on the training pitch now, with no games left for Danny Wilson to try out different players or for the squad to gain match fitness.

Latics boss Paul Dickov was in the stands to watch the game, casting an eye over his side's first opponents of the season.

The final score from Bramall Lane: Sheffield United 1:1 Blackpool.
