The game started brightly as the Blades played some fancy football. But the deadlock was broken on 25 minutes when Matt Kilgallon got out muscled by Neil Mellor and he got brought down according to referee C.Oliver.

The Blades felt harshely done by. Calum Davidson converted the penalty into the top corner of the goal. It was 1:0 to Preston and that lifted their crowd up enormously.

United went in 1:0 down at half time while the Blades manager Kevin Blackwell and his coaching staff was surrounding the referee on his desicon on giving Preston the 1st half penalty.

The Blades again started the half brightly but couldn't convert any chances. Shots by Halls, Hulse and Carney didn't trouble keeper Lonergan.

Preston doubled the lead with Neil Mellor as he converted the ball pass Paddy Kenny on 66 minutes.

Blackwell made a tactical change as Gary Naysmith came off for James Beattie. Beattie made an impact as he scored a late goal. The Blades won a penalty as Chris Morgan got pulled down. Beattie smashed it into the top corner.

The referee held up 6 minutes of added time. I don't know quite where from but us Blades fans will take that.

The Blades kept pressing but Preston came away with the ball. Chris Morgan was tussling with Mellor and referee Oliver said that was a foul. Morgan got his 2nd yellow card of the game as he got sent off. The Blades felt harshely done by once again.

Preston wrapped the game up on 90+6 minutes as Mellor scored his 2nd of the game and sent Kevin Blackwell's Sheffield United into the bottom half of the table.
