Drab showing leads to fan impatience

1243264506_spt_ai_burnley_sheffieldutd_18Despite his impressive win ratio as Blades manager, Kevin Blackwell ought to rectify things as quickly as possible as the impatience in the terraces is beginning to bed in. Promotion chasing Sheffield United could not blame injury problems, admitted the gaffer after the game, and nor should he after the eleven players airing the new away kit for the first team this season made a fool of themselves quite frankly.

Negativity is looming around S2, and the international break was thought to have come at just the right time, although this doesn't seem the way as United's leakage of goals at the wrong end is continuing to flow.

Grant McCann stunningly put the Iron in front with a looping volley which somehow found its way over the criticised Mark Bunn. The goalkeeper could arguably be questioned for the opening goal.

Ched Evans hasn't been firing on all cylinders since his £3m move from Eastlands, but his critics was quietened when he drilled the Blades in an equaliser after Stephen Quinn touched the ball off for the Welshman from a free-kick just outside the penalty box. The set-piece which led to the Blades' goal was conceded by David Mirfin who felled Ched Evans just outside the area. The Iron player was seemingly the last man back but the referee branded him with a caution only.

Scunny took the ascendancy from then on really, when Paul Hayes volleyed the Humberside outfit into a 2:1 lead at their compact stadium. Sheffield United's credentials of snatching an equaliser for the second time in the tie were completely washed away when slack defending from Matt Kilgallon allowed Josh Wright to scramble his shot away but it struck Mark Bunn's woodwork, but the ball immediately rebounded straight into the path of McCann who convert for his second of the tie on 59 minutes.

The away faithful was restless and knew a comeback wasn't on the cards. The game petered out for a comfortable win for Scunthorpe, but misery for United. The Blades faithful have lost most of their faith with the gaffer, it appears. Blackpool is a big game for the gaffer in terms of winning the majority of the fans over, but the performance surely doesn't all lie with Blackwell, the players were mostly to blame for their dire showing. The final score from Glanford Park is, Scunthorpe United 3:1 Sheffield United.
