United's Liberty woe

1241361598_spt_ai_crystalpalacevsheffutd_23Before today's clash Swansea City were on a low, thinking rather negative about life in the Championship this time around and were looking towards the relegation zone. Their despondence didn't affect the result when they prevailed 2:1.

Matt Kilgallon made the starting line-up after recovering from a chest infection; Davies dropped out. Cotterill was awarded with a place in the eleven, as was Quinn. The injured Ward wasn't available, Evans had to be content with a place on the bench.

Around 600 Unitedites descended to the Liberty Stadium seeking for back-to-back wins. A drab first-half included some misery for United. Keith Treacy was forced off with an injury which seemed to be around the leg area. The dull first-period was soon followed by a flamboyant second, although not to United's joy exactly. Nick Montogomery clashed with Lee Trundle just inside the area leaving the referee, D Deadman, no decision but to award a spot-kick. Trundle stepped up to the plate himself and dispatched the penalty sending Bunn the opposite way.

21 minutes later, Stephen Quinn brought the Blades back on level terms with Paulo Sousa's outfit. His tidy back-heel from James Harper's goal-bound effort fooled de Vries in the Swansea goal.

United received a further advantage when Jordi Lopez was dismissed for his second bookable offence of the clash. His dive in on Ched Evans saw the referee pull out a second yellow to the Spaniard.

A spectacular strike from Tom Butler shocked the Blades on 82 minutes. The ball nestled into the bottom-corner of Bunn's goal with the assistance of the post. The shot-stopping loanee couldn't do much to prevent.

Nathan Dyer, who scored for the Blades last season against Crystal Palace, saw red when he picked up a second yellow card, the same as Lopez. The midfielder kicked the ball away in aid to waste time in the six added minutes shown.

Confusion in the Swansea box between Little and Evans allowed the Welshmen to boot away for their second victory of the season. United remain in a play-off place, the last one, in fact.  Winless Ipswich Town travel up to Bramall Lane in mid-week, and victories for the Blades have come in a strange looking streak. Starting with the game against Middlesbrough in August, it goes; D, W, D, W, D, W, L, W, L... Is a win on the cards? Hopefully. The final score from the Liberty Stadium is, Swansea City 2:1 Sheffield United.
