Walsall beat Sheffield United 3-2 to record back-to-back league victories for the first time this season and climb out of the npower League One relegation zone.

Midfielder Sam Mantom, signed hours earlier on loan from West Brom, put the Saddlers in front with a great first time shot into the top corner after 55 minutes.

The lead lasted just 10 minutes, though, as Lee Williamson latched on to a Ched Evans pass to equalise.

Jon Macken's cross-shot restored the home side's lead after 73 minutes. It was the veteran striker's seventh goal of the season.

But once again the lead was shortlived as Evans darted through to level things up three minutes later.

However, Walsall, unbeaten in five matches, grabbed an 81st-minute winner when substitute Alex Nicholls headed in Mat Sadler's far-post cross.

Defences had been well on top in a tight first half and there was nothing to suggest such a thrilling second half.
