Kevin+Mcdonald+Sheffield+United+v+Sheffield+y_r7BFHZPBxlGoals from Joe Ironside, Neill Collins, Erik Tonne, Stephen Quinn, Pisani (own goal) and new boy John Cofie meant Sheffield United recorded their first pre-season win and remained unbeaten following up on Wednesday night's 1:1 draw with Ilkeston.

The scoreline may be eye-catching, but the most notable thing to come out of Monday night's game was the appearance of Kevin McDonald.

The Scotsman has kept United pretty much in limbo over the summer with the 'will he, won't he' situation regarding the potential renewal of his contract at the club.

Despite not turning up to pre-season training for the first few days at Shirecliffe, something which was his entitlement, it seems as though there has been a swing in United's favour in the chain of events.

The fact that he's travelled to Malta with the squad offers some hope to Blades fans.

McDonald, who was undoubtedly one of United's best players last season, appears ever so closer to agreeing a proposed two-year contract at the club.

Onto the game, the Blades went in front just two minutes in when the youthful Joe Ironside converted.

Neill Collins' close-range finish made it two, and Erik Tonne also chipped in with a goal at the back-post.

The second-half begun with Nick Montgomery striking the post, but United would eventually make it 4:0 through Stephen Quinn who drilled in from Chappell's ball.

It got from bad to worse for Corinthians when Pisani put through his own net, and then John Cofie got in on the act with neat goal past the goalkeeper on 81 minutes.

United: Long, Mumpaye (Westlake 64), Maguire, Collins, Williams (McAllister 64), Flynn (Chappell 55), McDonald (Montgomery 46), Harriott (Doyle 46), Philliskirk (Cofie 46), Ironside (Cresswell 46), Tonne (Quinn 46).
Unused: Howard.
